Panthers post solid swim times
HAYSVILLE — The Great Bend Panthers turned in a full slate of season-building performances Thursday at the Campus meet, posting improved times across multiple events as the team continues to develop depth and endurance.
"Across the board, the Panthers emphasized steady improvement and race execution, with several swimmers competing in multiple events as the season continues," said Great Bend coach Kari Carper.
The Panthers opened the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, with the 12th-place of Tyler Scheuerman, Eli Leech, Kale Mermis and Cade Urban swimming at 2:29.66. A second Great Bend relay featuring Cooper Burroughs, Leo Bashor, Draiden Kracman and Charlie Maharjan (3:02.2) finished 13th.
Scheuerman led the Panthers with 19th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:47.56), and 21st-place Bashor followed (3:01.36) and Dylon Kalivoda touched 22nd at 3:03.74.
Kale Mermis showed versatility in the 200-yard individual medley at 12th place (2:44.53).
In the sprint events, Eli Somers posted a strong 24.06 8th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, with Maharjan finishing 28th in 38.75.
Third-place medal winner Somers continued his solid night in the 100-yard freestyle (52.93), while 25th-place Eli Leech (1:22.63) and 27th-place Rocky Montanez (1:25.9). Cooper Burroughs also gained experience (1:47.94).
Distance events saw Mermis swim 8th in the 500-yard freestyle (6:39.16), followed by 15th place Urban (7:42.84), as both Panthers focused on pacing and endurance.
Great Bend’s relay squads closed the meet with consistent efforts. The Panthers’ 200-yard freestyle 14th-place relay of Somers, Kracman, Maharjan and Bashor (2:02.38), while Kalivoda, Burroughs, Montanez and Leech posted 15th place at 2:34.54.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Somers, Kracman, Urban and Mermis combined to finish 8th place at 4:13.69.
