HOISINGTON 52, RUSSELL 21 — Hoisington's defensive standout Jason Robinson shut out Russell's leading scorer Jake Mooney to spark a dominating 52-21 substate basketball victory over the Broncos Monday.

Robinson and the Cardinals' defense was the story of the night.

"That's what Jason Robinson does. He guards the other team's best player every night," said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. "When you run-and-jump on defense, you've got to let the offense come to you. Our defense was awesome. We hang out hat on defense, Marcus Ingram is a bulldog who fights."

Tony Moore scored 16 points and Mason Martin added 11 points. Caiden Hoffman's 8-point second half got the Cardinals rolling.

"Russell had three players on Tony Moore inside," Haxton said. "Caiden did a good job of sealing inside and we hit some perimeter shots. We need to make perimeter shots early."

Russell converted 7 of 44 field goals (16%), 2 of 21 in the first-half. Ayden Wagner led Russell with 11 points.
