Wheatland electric launches ‘Members Are Our Jam’ series
NEW Wheatland color with tag-FINAL

Wheatland Electric is launching a brand-new lunch and learn series – “Members Are Our Jam” – created to bring cooperative members together for valuable learning opportunities.

The inaugural installment of this series – “Scam Edition” – will focus on raising awareness about scams while providing clear, practical tips to help members of all ages safeguard their personal identities and information.

The free event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at The Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave, and is open to all members.

The program will include practical steps members can take to stay safe from scams and fraud and expert insights into scam tactics, presented by WEC’s information technology team.

Tickets are required but free and available for pickup at the Senior Center or at Wheatland Electric’s office at 200 10th St., while supplies last.

In today’s digital world, protecting personal information has never been more important. From fraudulent phone calls to deceptive emails and online scams, criminals are finding new ways to trick individuals into sharing confidential information. While seniors are often targeted because scammers may see them as more trusting or less familiar with technology, these threats affect people of all ages — making scam awareness essential for everyone.

“Scammers don’t just steal money – they steal peace of mind,” said Alli Conine, director of member services and corporate communications. “We want our members to feel confident when they pick up the phone, open their email, or go online. We want them to leave feeling empowered to recognize suspicious activity, safeguard their personal information, and know what to do if they encounter a scam.”
