Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Our Friends of the Library Book Sale is running through this Saturday, Aug. 1, during regular business hours. This is a great opportunity to get some amazing deals on books, movies, puzzles, and more!

Friday, July 31, is the last day for adults and teens to turn in their summer reading minutes for the chance to win fabulous prizes! Be sure to submit them before we close at 5 pm.

Registration for our fall Crafty Cross Stitch Club and Tabletop Teens is available today! Read on for more details about these upcoming programs.

If you’ve been enjoying our crochet projects and want to try something new, join the Crafty Cross Stitch Club! No experience is necessary. During the introductory lesson on Sept. 2, we will learn the basics of cross stitch and get started on making Pusheen, the Internet’s adorable chubby tabby who has warmed the hearts of millions with her animated GIFs and comics. This all-in-one kit includes everything you need to create cute embroidered designs of everyone’s favorite lazy, lovable feline. After the first meeting, we invite you to come back at the same time the next couple weeks to finish your projects. Staff will be available to help. Sign up online at greatbendpl.info.

Halloween lasts all fall this season at the library with Tabletop Teens! Starting Sept. 11, travel to Druskenvald, a mysterious land of eternal night in our upcoming miniseries. Steel thyself for the horrors and oddities found in the dark forests of this cursed land. Lock in your Halloween aesthetic by playing as unique races such as Harvestborn, Plagueborn, Relicborn, and more, combined with new and unique twists on familiar classes. Weave your own dreadful fate as you and your compatriots try to survive another night under the crooked moon. Visit greatbendpl.info/teens to sign up! Those who don’t get a spot as a player will be put on the waitlist. Any teens are welcome to come watch as part of the audience (no registration required)!

Wonder-Filled Wednesdays continue on Aug. 5 with the next installment of our Dino Documentary series at 10:30 a.m. We are watching Steven Spielberg’s latest documentary about the rise and fall of dinosaurs. Witness the majesty of these giant beasts who once ruled the earth on the big screen!

I also wanted to remind everyone that there will be no Delicious Dishes next Thursday, August 6. We appreciate your understanding, and we hope you will look forward to a similar program we will be bringing in the fall.

Friday is Adult Movie Night at 7 p.m! We will be showing a brand new Brendan Fraser movie. Many of you may remember him from “The Mummy” franchise. In the film we’re showing at the library, Fraser plays an actor living in Japan who takes on a new kind of role to make ends meet, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Things get especially complicated when he takes on a father role for a little girl missing hers, and he begins to form a genuine paternal bond with her. Grab your tissues (you very well may need them), and come enjoy a free night of good popcorn and great cinema, on us! The north doors will be open at 6:45 p.m. and will close at 7:15 p.m.
