Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! Before we jump into this week’s events, I want to congratulate the top readers from our Read to Luna program this past semester, starting in January. As many of you may know, our wonderful pet partner Luna has gone into retirement, so this is sadly the last time we will be able to announce the top readers. Don’t fret, however, as Luna has promised to come back on occasion for a visit, so look for news of that in the future.
This semester, we had three major standouts who read to Luna more than anyone. Daniella V. read to Luna for a staggering 145 total minutes. Her sister, Azeneth V., was close behind with a total of 130 minutes. Cassandra G. came in third with a respectable 77 minutes total. To celebrate all their hard work and Luna’s retirement, we had an ice cream social where everyone, including Luna, got to relax and enjoy some well-earned ice cream.
It’s Thursday, so that means Genealogy Thursday at 11 this morning, then Adult Craft Night at 6 this evening. This month, we will be going back to a childhood favorite, Shrinky Dinks! Attendees will be able to design their pins using Shrinky Dink film. We can’t wait to see the designs everyone comes up with.
Friday is the finale of this semester’s Tabletop Teens D&D Adventure, where we’ll wrap up the story and play some board games. If you want to be there to see how the tale ends and play some games with us, teens can join from 3:45- 7 p.m. This program runs after-hours, so please plan to stay for the whole event.
Saturday is finally time for our Plant Swap Party from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Are you looking to add some variety to your plant collection or need a Mother’s Day gift? Bring in your healthy houseplants and clippings to swap with each other or to trade for our collection of succulent starters. Don’t have any plants to swap? No problem, we have plenty to spare.
Next week, join us during Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. for a morning of smart device troubleshooting. Later that evening we have our May Writing Club meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Writers from the Barton County area are welcome to join us each month to share and work on your craft.
Lastly, after our regular genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., we have the Teen Manga & Anime Club, where we will be having a marathon of the Disastrous Life of Saiki K., the story of a pink-haired psychic who seems to always find himself in the middle of everyone’s problems, when all he wants is to be left alone to eat coffee jelly. We will have some special snacks to go along with the watch party!
