The pews in the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church were draped with 75 multicolored quilts created over the past year by the church’s quilters. The quilts were displayed Oct. 3 and 4. Most of the quilts will be shipped to Lutheran World Relief in Minnesota and then distributed around the world to those in need. Fourteen quilts were donated to Oaks Indian Mission in Oaks, Oklahoma, for use by its residents. In addition to the quilts, the group made and sent 55 school kits, 36 health kits and four sewing kits to help others in need.
The quilters provide not only the labor but also the fabric, batting, yarn and sewing supplies needed to make each 60-by-80-inch quilt. The group is grateful for the fabric donations it receives throughout the year. Its mission also reaches the local community. The quilters have made receiving blankets and crocheted baby hats for St. Francis Ministries.
While helping others is at the heart of their work, the group also provides an opportunity for fellowship among the women who gather to sew and crochet together.
Anyone interested in helping with this mission or learning more about the group is invited to contact Ruth Lanterman through Trinity Lutheran Church for additional information.
