SANTE FE, Texas — Elsie Katherine Hicks, 96, died peacefully Feb. 17, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.  

She was born July 17, 1928, in Alexander, Kan., to Alex and Marie (Zimmerman) Wegele. She was a Hoisington resident all her life until she moved to Sante Fe, Texas with her daughter in 2009.

Elsie was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1946. 

On Oct. 2, 1947, she married Lyle Hicks in Hoisington.

Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Barber and Lila Ritter both of Sante Fe, Texas; a son, Gordon Hicks of Great Bend; a brother, Wilmer (Cheryl) Wegele of Russell; eight grandkids; 23 great grandkids; and six great-great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Hicks; son, Gerald Hicks; and grandson, Justin Hicks.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m., May 17, 2025, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Doug Mitchell presiding. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place  later at Golden Belt Memorial Park.
