HAYS — Hoisington's softball team was poised to shock unbeaten Hays Thomas More Prep Monarchs with a 7-4 lead.

But the Monarchs converted four walks and three errors into a game-winning 6-run rally for a 10-7 first game victory. The Monarchs (18-0) downed the Cardinals 6-2 in the second game.

The Cardinals drop to 12-6, 8-4 Central Kansas League.

HAYS TMP 10, CARDINALS 7 (G1) — Hoisington pitcher Brynn Tarlton (7-4, 3.46 ERA) held the hot-hitting Monarchs in check for five innings.

But four walks, three errors and a misplayed bunt led to six Monarch runs. Monarch Bria Windholz delivered a key 2-run single.

Tarlton homered, doubled and singled twice while driving in two runs. Myah Frederking, Marly Brewer and Kelsi Maier drove home runs.

Windholz drove home three runs and Paige Koenigsman drove in two runs.

HAYS TMP 6, CARDINALS 2 (G1) — Monarch pitcher Windholz struck out four batters and held the Cardinals to two runs.

Monarchs Windholz, Hannah Rose, Rebel and Koenigsman drove home runs off pitcher Aubree Martin (5-2 5.38 ERA).

Myah Frederking's sixth-inning single scored Reese Vaughn. Kelsi Maier's seventh-inning double scored Brewer.
