NO. 1 CUNNINGHAM 81, NO. 5 MACKSVILLE 59 — Defending 1A Division 2 state champion Cunningham cruised past No. 5 1A Division 1 Macksville 81-59 in Monday's non-league basketball game between ranked teams.
Cunningham's Will Wegerer scored 31 points and Luke Albers added 25 points as they combined for 56 points on 22 of 41 field goals. The No. 1 ranked Wildcats (14-0) converted 31 of 63 field goals and 8 of 20 on 3-pointers. The Wildcats outscored Macksville 51-30 in the second and third quarters.
Macksville's all-stater Diego Esparza was spectacular with 32 points, four steals and two assists. Kendall Grippin added 11 points with nine rebounds.
