ROZEL — Ransom-Western Plains battled past the Pawnee Heights Tigers, 16-25, 25-15, 25-16 to capture the Rozel/Burdett volleyball championship. The Bobcats also downed the Tigers 25-23, 25-13 in pool play at Rozel.

Western Plains downed Ashland, 25-14, 25-17 and Pawnee Heights upset Macksville, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15 in the semifinals.

Cardinals capture Russell title

RUSSELL — Hoisington avenged a loss to Goodland with a hard-fought 25-23, 25-21 championship victory at Saturday's Russell volleyball tournament. Hoisington (14-3) won four of five matches. 

In the championship match, Hoisington all-stater Sofia Simic contributed 13 serves received and 10 winners. Other game stats against Goodland were Miya Nachtigal, 19 serves received, 6 digs; Reece Vaughn, 17 assists, 15 serves; Brynn Tarlton, 12 serves; Kinley Wilkens, 4 blocks; Kelsi Maier, 7 digs.

Goodland defeated Hoisington, 25-10, 25-19 in pool play.

Topeka West defeated Central Plains 25-17, 25-11 for fifth place. The Oilers (7-7) finished 1-3 at Russell.
