Student Library Assistant Lexi Thomas will highlight different Ellinwood High School seniors throughout the school year in our “Check It Out” column.

Each senior answers questions from a selection of prompts, giving readers an opportunity to learn something new and unique about each student.

This week’s featured Senior Spotlight is Bennett Jacobs.

Bennett’s family includes her parents, Ben and Julie Ann Jacobs, and her twin brother, Banks Jacobs.

When asked about a book she would recommend, Bennett chose “The Wishing Game” by Meg Shaffer, because it reminded her of some of the books she read in her childhood but also contains adult topics and ideas.

One thing people might be surprised to learn about Bennett is that she wants to become a dentist and address dental deserts in Kansas. She wants to eventually open her own practice in an area that would benefit from having one.

Something that she learned that has made a difference for her is the value of wins and losses. Bennett has been involved in many sports, and knowing how to be humble when she wins and show resilience when she loses is something that has shaped her into a better leader and person.

Bennett’s advice for incoming students would be to develop their resumes by getting involved in things other than just sports. Anyone can play sports, but what really distinguishes you from others is contributing your talents in other ways.

We wish Bennett a wonderful senior year as she begins this exciting chapter of her life!
