Barbara Joan Krier, 70, died June 5, 2026, in a vehicular accident with her beloved son, Steven ‘Chad’ Reed, in Waubansee County, Kan.
She was born May 25, 1956, in Great Bend, Kan., the daughter of Vernon and Barbara ‘Joan’ (Francis) Krier. Barbara grew up on the farm east of Claflin. She attended Claflin High School and later received her associate’s degree from Barton Community College. Her love of children led her to open a daycare, Applied Learning Center, in Great Bend, that she ran for many years.
Barbara was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend and was active in her community. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She took great joy in all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Reed and significant other Stephen Scott of Topeka; siblings, Darryl Krier and wife Ronda of Ellinwood, Jay Krier of rural Claflin, and Jodi Baltizore and husband Tyler of Hoisington; eight grandchildren, Danielle Reed (Toby Tracy) of Christianburg, Va., Ashlie Reed (Josh Allen) of Waxahachie, Texas, Kylo Scott of Topeka, Kelsea Kirmer and Andrew Reed both of Great Bend, Broc Reed, Bailey Reed, and Emma Reed all of Wichita; and seven great-grandchildren, Poppi Tracy, Onyx Tracy, Cahl Delano all of Christianburg, Va., Zeela Allen of Waxahatchie, Texas, and De’Asia Ryce, Da’Lajiah Ryce, Da’Ravian Ryce Jr. all of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Verna Montoya; and two brothers, Mike and Patrick Krier.
Vigil and Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 3rd, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Fathers Benjamin Dande and Prakash Kola.
