Don L. ‘Bub’ Young passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025. He was born on July 20, 1949, in Pratt, Kan., the second son of Richard D. and Bernice J. (Stone) Young.
Don attended school primarily in Sylvia, Kan. He graduated from Pratt High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, where he met and fell in love with his wife of 57+ years. He and Susan M. Poland were united in marriage on June 6, 1970. They made their home in Kansas but also resided in Texas. They spent the last 37 years in Great Bend, Kan. Sons Brian and Bradley were born to he and Susan.
Don was in sales in the steel fabrication industry. He was acquainted with numerous people across the United States. Many of his associates and customers became friends and remain so today. He practiced his motto “Customers First” to the benefit of many. Don was also a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and papa. Family was most important to him. Don gave his time willingly and enthusiastically to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Brian Young of Blue Springs, Mo., grandchildren, Ashton Young of Boise, Idaho, Carter Young of Hays, and McKenzie Mendez and husband Brandon and children, Brady, Brynlee Jo, and Bradley Don of Great Bend; brother, Tom Young and wife Sally of El Dorado; and sister-in-law, Dana Young of Lindsay, Texas. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends were cherished by Don. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Young; and brother, Danny Young.
Cremation was selected and an inurnment will take place at a later date. There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers or memorials, Don requests that you please hug your family. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
