3 Quilts of Valor presented July 26, 2024
Terrence (Terry) Nech
United States Army veteran Specialist Terrence (Terry) Nech was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on July 26, 2024, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Terry served from 1970 to 1971. The quilt top was made by Linda Bittel; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. Pictured left to right: Poncho Hitschmann, Terry Nech, Amy Schartz Mellor and Chris Krueger.

Golden Plains Quilts of Valor presented three quilts to local veterans on July 26 at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Quilt tops were made by Phyllis Manhart, Linda Bittel and LaWanna Krestine; quilting was by Amy Schartz Mellor.

David Halbower 


United States Marine Corps veteran David Halbower was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on July 26, 2024, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Halbower served from 1974 to 1977 and attained the rank of E-4. The quilt top was made by LaWanna Krestine; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 


John Clark Jr.


United States Army veteran Private John Clark Jr. was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on July 26, 2024, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Clark served from 1963 to 1967. The quilt top was made by Phyllis Manhart; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor.
