All it took was a post on Facebook for dozens of people to show up at the Kingdom Campus on Friday morning, lining up for free fresh eggs and boxes of Hostess snack foods.

The Kingdom Campus, located at 700 South Patton Road in Great Bend, is part of Live Like Jesus Today Ministries. Founder Buzz Birney said the ministry offers a community food distribution approximately once or twice a month, whenever they can afford to pay the shipping costs for donated items.

“We bless thousands,” Birney said. For Friday’s distribution, 4,500 dozen eggs were delivered to Great Bend. Food will also go to the Central Kansas Dream Center, schools, correctional facilities and fire departments.

During the recent cold wave, Live Like Jesus Today Ministries sponsored a warming shelter, open 24 hours a day, at the Dream Center. Birney said 10-12 people stayed there overnight, and they fed 20-40 people each day.

The Kingdom Campus also operates a thrift store, which was closed Friday during the food distribution.

Donations can be made on the LLJTM website, livelikejesustoday.com or mailed to 700 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.
