The Seventh Annual Blessed Bike Rally will take place this weekend in Jack Kilby Square. The family-friendly event is sponsored by Cross Winds of Kansas Bikers Church, located at 1219 Main in Great Bend.
There will be food and merchandise vendors in the courthouse square all day Saturday, Aug. 16. The kids’ splash pad will be open and kids can also take part in a scavenger hunt and bounce house. Participants can create sidewalk chalk art and enter a 50/50 raffle.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. There will be bike games grudge matches at 10 a.m. and the regular bike games at 10:30 on Lakin Ave., south of the courthouse.
Bike blessings are at 1 p.m. At 1:30 participants can pose for a group photo and the 50/50 raffle drawing will take place.
At 2 p.m. it will be kickstands up for the Bug Run, a scenic group ride of under 90 miles to a central Kansas landmark and back. A group photo will be taken part way through the ride. The motorcycle with the most bugs on the headlight at the end of the trip is the Bug Run winner.
There will be a watermelon feed at 4 p.m. back at Jack Kilby Square.
The rally will conclude on Sunday morning in the square. Meet at 8 a.m. for social time before a Cross Winds of Kansas Bikers Church service at 9 a.m.
More Saturday events
Also happening Saturday is the annual Rolling Sculpture Car Show, going on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Barton County Historical Society grounds, just south of the Arkansas River bridge in Great Bend at 85 South U.S. 281.
The Hays Community Theatre will stage mock robberies of the Santa Fe Depot at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Golden Belt Model Railroad will offer slot car racing inside the little depot. Free is admission and concessions will be available.
Dog owners can take their pets to the Wetlands Waterpark at 2303 Main for the annual Bark at the Waterpark, from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is $5 per dog with proceeds benefitting the city dog park.
Children can attend the Bike Safety Rodeo, a come-and-go event from 9-11 a.m. at the Clara Barton Medical Center west parking lot at 250 West 9th St. in Hoisington. An officer will be on hand for car seat checks. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Kids can learn bike safety and traffic signals, test the skills in a bike obstacle course and receive a free helmet. There will be drawings for other prizes.
