Overnight parking restrictions around the Barton County Courthouse square could change to allow future residents of the Lofts at the Zarah to park freely. A proposed ordinance is on the agenda for the Great Bend City Council meeting, set for 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall. Meetings are also livestreamed on the City’s Facebook page.
According to the agenda notes, construction of the loft apartments downtown is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Currently, no parking is allowed around the square from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The ordinance in effect since 1994 was passed to address littering. It applies to both sides of Main Street from Lakin to Broadway, the north side of Lakin between Main and Kansas, the south side of Broadway from Main to Kansas and the west side of Kansas from Lakin to Broadway.
The proposed ordinance would repeal that and allow parking in these areas continuously.
Also on Monday’s agenda is an executive session to discuss information deemed privileged in the attorney-client relationship. The executive session will include the governing body, city administrator and city attorney.
The consent agenda includes paying bills and closing Broadway Avenue between Kansas Avenue and Main Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, for the Kiwanis Trunk or Treat event.
