City Band concerts start June 5

The 2025 Great Bend City Band season opens at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, June 5, in Jack Kilby Square. Band Manager Kurtis Koch said the June 5 show will be the last one for Director Grant Mathews, who recently retired as band director at Great Bend High School.

Other members of the City Band will take turns as director this summer. This will be the Great Bend City Band’s 140th year.

Concerts will start at 8:15 p.m. in Jack Kilby Square, weather permitting. Concerts are scheduled for June 5, 12, 19 and 26, and July 3, 10, and 24. In addition to those dates, all Thursdays, there will be a Big Band concert on Friday, July 11, and another concert on Tuesday, July 15.
