Great Bend Public Relations Officer Addison Crites reported this week that the City is in Phase One of its project to revise its website. She also gave an update on this year’s Home for the Holidays celebration. City Administrator Logan Burns presented an update on what’s happening within the City of Great Bend organization.
A kickoff meeting with the web design team was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, Crites told the City Council on Monday. “So far I have submitted logos, pictures, examples of other website home pages we like, just to draw information from. We will soon enter Phase Two, which is the discovery and design approval process.
This will take about six to eight weeks, and we will be provided with mock-ups of what the homepage will look like until we formally approve the final version.”
Crites said the City is also in the early stages of planning this year’s Home for the Holidays festival and parade.
This year, the Busy Buzzers 4-H Club will have a Christmas petting zoo.
Once again, Rosewood Services will sponsor a cookie contest and offer horse-drawn carriage rides. There will be wagon rides, the Dolly Trolley, the Santas Around the World display, “and much more.” Golden Belt Model Railroad will have displays running in the afternoon. Mark Bitter will provide free hot chocolate and hotdogs.
“We’re still in the early stages of planning, so I’m sure some things are subject to change and we’re willing to add more to the day is organizations and groups want to be involved,” she said. “We will announce the parade theme and send out entry forms in the upcoming weeks.” She’s also created a new logo for the Trail of Lights.
Administrator report
City Administrator Burns said staff will receive training next week on the new air burner at the compost site. Other items in his report:
• The City will conduct in-home and business visits next week to finish the lead and copper pipe surveys. Those who have completed surveys won’t be contacted but there are still about 426 locations where they don’t have the information. That’s about 6% of the total water services in the city.
• Fire Prevention Week runs Oct. 5-11.
• The Citywide Cleanup will be Oct. 18-26. There will be a dumpster set up at Sunflower Diversified Services' recycling center at 5605 10th St. More information will be released soon.
• Crews are working on the Harrison well this week, installing new valves, piping and a new meter.
• The leak in the play feature at the Wetlands Waterpark has been found. “We’ve been chasing that one for a while,” he said, adding it can now be repaired.
