STAFFORD — What a beautiful weather week. Stafford is busy getting ready for Oktoberfest, Oct. 3 and 4. Check out the schedule and pictures of past fun on their facebook page or https://www.oktoberfeststaffordks.com. Plan to join in on the fun!
The library will have a dedication of the flag pole and flag in memory of Tim Dye at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 4. The library will also be open for a short time for people to come visit.
Last Tuesday evening we had Recently Read at 5:30 and enjoyed a fun evening of visiting about books and authors. A variety of books were shared:
• “Sirens” by Emilia Hart. A story about sisters who were separated by centuries but bound together by the sea. A modern day family drama with mystery and fantasy thrown in.
• “We Are All Guilty Here” by Karin Slaughter. Small town relationships are never what they seem. A mystery unfolds with the disappearance of two teenage girls. The story has two timelines - the present and 12 years in the future when another girl vanishes.
• “All This Could Be Yours” by Hank Phillippi Ryan. Tessa Calloway. A well known author is on a book tour when her “Deal with the Devil” comes due. Will her stalker expose her dark secret from the past and ruin her career, destroy her family and endanger her very life?
• “Wild Dark Shore” by Charlotte McConaghy. Modern day science, family drama and mystery collide on a remote island by Antarctica.
• “She Didn’t See It Coming” by Shari Lapena. A perfect family with perfect careers living in a supportive community of friends, how can everything go so wrong? The young mother disappears and the disparate search leads to whiplash twists and turns.
• “Court of Swans” by Melanie Dickerson. England 1381: Where there is wealth and power, there’s always someone willing to do anything to take it. When Delia’s father dies, her stepmother accuses her seven brothers of treasonous crimes. Seeking to free them from Richard II’s grasp, Delia’s only ally is Sir Geoffrey, the man who arrested them. Can she trust him? Amazon
• “The Power of One” by Bryce Coutenay. 1939, Hitler’s shadow reaches South Africa where a young boy, Peekay, dreams heroic dreams. His dreams are nothing compared to his epic life journey through tribal superstition and prejudice where he discovers the power of words to transform lives and the power of one.
• “The Last Letter” by Rebecca Yarros. It is what the title implies: a last letter from a dying soldier to his friend, pleading with him to save his family back home. It is a heartbreaking, inspirational, romance. Kleenex needed.
• “The Lacuna” by Barbara Kingsolver. The life of a young boy as he grows up in the 20th century during its most troubling times with noted people of the times. An inside look into their lives.
• “A Shoe Story” by Jane L. Rosen. A small town woman moves to the Big Apple to live her “best life” only to be called back home to care for her ailing father. Seven years after leaving her dreams behind she gets a second chance to live her best dreams. A closet full of designer shoes throws humor into the mix.
