People from nine different agencies gathered at the Central Kansas Dream Center on Monday as a truck from F&A Food Sales in Concordia arrived with a shipment for The Emergency Food Assistance Program commodity distribution.
CKDC Director Charlonda Wells said the Dream Center is the drop-off location for communities such as Ellinwood, Larned and Macksville. The commodities also go to the Great Bend Housing Authority and the Dream Center.
Ellinwood items went directly from Great Bend to the Ellinwood Community Church for commodity distribution that afternoon.
On Tuesday afternoon, people lined up outside the Dream Center, waiting for the TEFAP distribution. Each recipient got a box of canned goods and other packaged foods, as well as a bag of refrigerated foods such as fish sticks.
Dan Farha at F&A said his company is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.
“We have provided warehousing and distribution for the State of Kansas for all USDA Food Commodities for over 30 years,” he said. “We deliver to over 400 locations for the food commodities, which ends up reaching thousands of Kansans.”
F&A’s corporate headquarters are located in Concordia. Separately, its Wholesale Food Division serves customers in eight states.
