County commission has awareness proclamations, burn ban ahead

The Barton County Commission will proclaim April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month when it meets at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at the courthouse. The meeting will also be live-streamed at https://bit.ly/49Lphaf.

Emergency Management Director Sean Kelly will request a temporary burn ban until weather conditions improve. Local fire chiefs have requested the ban due to persistent dry weather.

The commissioners have also been asked to consider reimbursing Advancing Barton County Childcare (ABCC) Inc. the cost of building a road in Claflin where a new childcare facility is being built.

Other items on the agenda are the annual review of a conditional land use permit for the property used by Marshall Towing, board appointments, rebuild of a 2015 landfull compactor, a proposal from Wasabi cloud Storage, and proposals for contracted cleaning and custodial services.

Although subject to change, the following appointments have been scheduled:

9:45 a.m. or following the close of the agenda meeting – Planning session with Media Consultant Elle Hutchinson.

10 a.m. – Financial update and regular business discussion with County Administration Matt Patzner

10:30 a.m. – Program update with Environmental Management Director Judy Goreham

11 a.m. – Trash bids with Facilities Director Darren Williams.

11:15 a.m. – Patzner will continue regular business discussions.
