Create a positive ‘butterfly effect’

STAFFORD — We are getting rave reviews for our new arrangement of furniture! Come check it out. There are a few additions that still need to be put together that will make things even better.

I am reading the trilogy “North and South” by John Jakes. Joe Fritzemeyer giving the second book “Love and War” to the library prompted me to read the whole trilogy on my State Library card. It is an interesting read because so many of the behaviors going on now were happening then: riots, misuse of government funds, extreme division. Let’s make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. Dialog leading to positive change trumps Division every time. Let’s give it a try in our daily lives and hope it has the butterfly effect in our world.

“In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state.” (Wiki) In other words, one movement of a butterfly wing moves the air that later affects the path and intensity of a tornado. Every person’s actions affect the whole. Think before you speak or react.

We are scheduling a Books, Balls, and Blocks developmental screening event for April 9. This event helps families complete the Ages and Stages Questionnaires© (ASQ-3© and ASQ:SE-2©) in a relaxed and engaging environment. This event will take place in April with a partnership with Stafford Economic Development, Larabee Library and Help Me Grow Kansas. What happens at this event?

• Children and parents visit play stations.

• Families complete the ASQ-3© and/or ASQ:SE-2© (just 15–20 minutes).

• Families leave with free tools and resources to support healthy development.

If you have a young child aged 0-5 years in your family this is a great opportunity to check their development by engaging in fun activities and then you get to take home tools to help their development. Put April 9th on your calendar and stay tuned for more information.

Don’t forget our AI program with Jennifer Gleason of K-State Extension on March 12 at 3 p.m. This will be an informative program helping us understand AI and how it affects our daily lives.

The State Library Survey is completed and sent in. We had 3,774 step through our door last year. Not bad for only being open four hours a day! I hope one of them was you! If not, come see us this year and experience this great resource in our community. We offered 143 programs in total, which includes programs such as ESOL and Preschool Story Hour that count each week they meet. We appreciate all the people that have enjoyed using our library and encourage everyone to come enjoy your tax dollars at work, giving you a welcoming place for lifetime learning.
