STAFFORD — Our hearts and prayers go out to the Kim Hildebrand Paulsen family. At Kim’s funeral they talked about her job as a Probation Officer for 30 years in Reno County. We need to realize the important jobs that our court system has in place to help people work toward a better life. Thank those that work with the courts.
Come join us at a fun Christmas Card Crafting party on Dec. 18. It is scheduled at 5:15 p.m. so those that work can come join us. Maybe you saw Laura Davis’s beautiful cards at the Stafford Craft Market Saturday? Now you have the chance to craft your own. No talent needed, just a willingness to have a fun hour, then go home with four beautiful cards crafted by you! Limited to 10, so get your reservation in soon by contacting the Larabee Library. There is a $10 charge.
Jeff, John and I had a fun Saturday night. Milo is cut! Which meant we could travel to Cheney to watch our grandson play with Pratt Basketball. I need to thank John and Jody (our son and daughter) for getting us in and out and watching over us. Getting old isn’t for sissies!
Then since we were in the vicinity of Sedgwick, we went to Cy’s Hoof and Horn for a wonderful meal. While we were in Sedgwick we searched out their library and left an Interlibrary Loan book in their dropbox. I had it in the car all ready to mail, so I saved about $5 postage.
Even though the price of mail has made ILL kind of expensive, it gives us a chance to get almost unlimited materials for our patrons . South Central Kansas Library helps with a grant for local expenses like this. I had books from Derby, Wichita, Belleville, Andale and others in my car to mail. I couldn’t help but think it would be fun to make the rounds and deliver them all in person. Didn’t happen, but it would be fun as long as I had a driver! Just call me Santa! Ho! Ho! Ho!
I often wonder about the libraries we borrow books from and the Lillian Tear Library was a very cute storefront building which made me wish I could see beyond the door. Facebook! They have a very active facebook page and pictures of the inside and staff. The library was named for Lillian Tear, their longest-employed librarian who retired in 1965 at the age of 90. They have shared books with us many times and I always appreciate those libraries that will share their collection with us.
I can not tell you how much I am enjoying my State of Kansas Library Card. It puts unlimited books at my fingertips. I was looking for an audiobook that I could listen to while cleaning the kitchen and I liked the cover of “Wings of Refuge” by Lynn Austin. Yes, I know don’t judge a book by the cover – but I also know Lynn Austin is an excellent author. This is a historical fiction that takes place throughout history back to Christ’s time in Israel. It connects all the different time lines through an archaeology dig.
This book walked me through the history of the area in an informative but yet a “walk in their shoes” entertaining kind of way.
