Darin Munsch of Great Bend Boy Scout Troop 157 recently completed his Eagle Scout project, a decorative brick wall adorned with emblems from the six branches of the Armed Services, at the American Legion Post 180.

Munsch and friends finished the project on Sunday, July 21, days before this 18th birthday, which is the deadline for completing an Eagle Scout project.

A Scout follows a project workbook throughout the entire process, from writing the proposal to completing the final report. Munsch got approval from the district Scout coordinator and discussed the plan and funding with representatives of the Post. He coordinated the work and recorded his hours.

“The American Legion is very proud of Darin to think of them for doing this for his Eagle project,” said Marianne Krallman with the American Legion Post 180 Auxiliary. The wall is located next to the post’s new flag pole and was “very nicely done.”

Mark Herrman with Herrman Masonry erected the wall, with Darin helping throughout the project, said Rick Munsch, his father. The Great Bend High School metal shop class cut out the emblems and South 281 Upholstery and Powdercoat did the powdercoating. Darin and other Scouts assembled and attached the emblems to the wall.

Munsch will be a senior at GBHS this fall this year. His involvement with Scouting will continue with a Venturing Crew that allows young people to stay in the organization until they are 21 years old.
