STAFFORD — Have you ever been reading a book and the character in the book is reading a book and she loves the book? Are you ever interested enough to follow the book trail? I did. I was reading a book by Carolyn Miller and the author wrote about loving a book by Georgette Heyer. Both were romance but Miller’s was a modern day story and Heyer’s was a Regency Romance/Mystery. I’ve found a “new to me” great author!

“Moral of the Story,” don’t be afraid to find new authors in a variety of ways.

Our most recent way to find new authors was the Recently Read group, which met last Tuesday. We had a variety of genres and authors, from a memoir of a female cremator to a book about Fallen Angels. Titles and authors shared were:

  • “Chasing the Sun,” by Tracie Peterson
  • “Lovers in Auschwitz: a true story,” by Keren Blankfeld
  • “Mona’s Eyes,” by Thomas Schlesser
  • “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” by Caitlin Doughty
  • “Angels Eternal War of the Princes,” by Micah Van Huss
  • “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking,” by Susan Cain
  • “The Road,” by Cormack McCarthy
  • “Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice,” by Virginia Roberts Giuffre
  • Many books by Carolyn Miller
  • “The Reluctant Widow,” by Georgette Heyer
  • We talked about the movie “Places in the Heart,” starring Sally Field.

We are looking forward to hosting a meeting for people helping 4-H kids make projects for the Stafford County Fair. Parents, grandparents and others that help 4-H kids with projects, this is a meeting that will help you make positive memories and add to the success of a child’s project. It will be on May 12 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
