Swim Fishies Swim! We had over 50 kids and adults swimming in Larabee Ocean this week! They were AMAZED at all the work Sandy put into making a fun ocean adventure for them.
Envision a child with a shark fin hat (with light) “swimming” through a big shark to enter the colorful Larabee Ocean. Beautiful jellyfish lighting up a magnificent coral reef, Ursula on her throne reading the book “Shark Lady,” a true story about Eugenie Clark who became a fearless shark scientist. A sunken pirate ship, with a pirate still on board with his treasure chest and scary octopus. A video playing with live ocean creatures. Too much to imagine? Come swim with us and see even more!
Why go to all this trouble? Stafford’s kids are our future! We want them to make great memories at Nora’s Place and learn about the world around them. We want them to come have an adventure that they will remember for a lifetime and then remember how Larabee Library made that adventure happen. Kids are our future.
South Central Kansas Library Crawl brought us five visitors this week! Three from Valley Center and two from Augusta. Most of them were able to make it down the stairs to see the ocean. They couldn’t believe it! Both groups were planning to go to all three Stafford County Libraries. What a fun day trip. To find out more about this fun event go to our facebook page.
Remember our new program “Recently Read”? We have new participants each month and greatly enjoy the evening of sharing books. Books we shared this month:
• “The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage” by Mel Robbins
• “It’s a Love Story” by Annabel Monaghan
• “A Stitch in Time” by Allison Bottke
• “Home Front” by Kristin Hannah
• “The Better Sister” by Alafair Burke
• “The Breakaway” by Jennifer Weiner
• “The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhon
• “From Manassas To Appomattox: Memoirs Of The Civil War” by General James Longstreet
Check out our facebook page to see some of the new books we have bought. We are able to buy lots of books this year thanks to two grants for the new programing, Recently Read for adults and Preschool Story time for the preschoolers. One grant was from South Central Kansas Library System and one from the Golden Belt Community Foundation. We thank these organizations for providing many new books for both new programs! Sandy is hip deep in new books to process!
