Running ahead of schedule, chip and fog sealing operations for the next phase of the City of Great Bend’s 2026 Asphalt Resurfacing Project are scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 17, with Vance Brothers performing the work.

The processes of chip and fog sealing are critical to lengthening the lifespan of Great Bend’s streets. Chip sealing protects underlying pavement and forms a waterproof barrier while fog sealing serves as a protective top layer that locks surface aggregate into place.

Areas and streets receiving chip seals on Monday include: Sunset Road; Sunset Place; Zarah Drive; Cheyenne Drive; Shawnee Drive; Walnut Drive; Pawnee Road; Pawnee Place; Hubbard Street from Broadway Avenue to 22nd Street; 21st Street from Holland Street to U.S. 281 Bypass.

Work on McBride Parkway to Morphy Street is scheduled for Aug. 17 as time allots, or Aug. 18. Chip sealing on 21st Street from Holland Street to U.S. 281 Bypass, MacArthur Road from 7th Street to city limits and 3rd Street from C Street to SW 40 Avenue will be completed on Aug. 18.

Fog sealing on all listed streets will immediately follow on Aug. 19-21.

Drivers should expect temporary traffic disruptions in the affected areas while work is underway. As this project is nearing completion, the City of Great Bend appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses and visitors impacted by the work.
