Giving a short talk in front of the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education was no problem last Wednesday for four JAG-K students. Career Specialist Teresa Laraby, who teaches a section of the elective course at Great Bend High School, said that shows how far students have come since enrolling in the Jobs for America’s Graduates - Kansas program.

Abigail Alvarez, Alyssa Chavez, Khloe Trudeau, and president Ashley Gonzalez Agustin said JAG-K is not a typical high school class. It has students writing resumes and preparing for job interviews, along with learning about their options for further education after high school. They also learn to stand in front of an audience and speak.

Laraby said students attended the JAG Career Development Conference on Feb. 24 at Barton Community College and did an amazing job.

“They all represented Great Bend very well,” she said.

Kenton Grauerholz won first place in Financial Literacy and will move on to the state competition in that event.

Ella Nokes secured fifth place in Prepared Speaking and Trinity Eldridge received sixth place in Career Preparation., “Everyone worked hard, competed well and had fun today,” Laraby said when she posted a team photo on Facebook.
