After 40 years of owning and operating the Hoisington Dairy Queen, Becky and Leon Steiner announced they are closing the business. Their last day will be Aug. 28.

Becky Steiner confirmed that her daughter Amber and husband John Crawford will open a new eating establishment in the 301 East 9th St. location. It will no longer be a Dairy Queen.

Word spread quickly on Tuesday after someone posted on Facebook a photo of a notice on the front door of the business. It states, “Amber and John will be opening their very own hometown fast food concept restaurant. They are excited to bring a new business to the community with a fun family-friendly atmosphere. Keep your eyes & ears open as more details to come.”

The note adds, “(Becky and Leon) would like to give a HUGE thank you to the community (for) all the support over the years.”

The Hoisington Dairy Queen celebrated 70 years in business in 2023 with a week of specials, such as 70-cent  ice cream cones, fries, hamburgers and sundaes. At the time, Becky noted that the location has stayed the same but the building itself has been through a few changes, the last being from the 2001 tornado. Other changes occurred with the pandemic causing staff shortages.
