STAFFORD — Mandy Kern of Cheyenne Bottoms did a great job presenting “Wetland Adventures” to our almost 50 kids for Summer Reading. Did you know that Cheyenne Bottoms is the largest wetland area in the United States? It’s a “Must See” in our own backyard.

The program began with reading and watching on our smart TV the story “Nature is an Artist” by Jennifer Lavallee. Then Mandy had many pictures of Cheyenne Bottoms that showed the colors and art of the Wetlands. Chomps the painted turtle joined our group and modeled his pretty colors.

The presentation closed with four different art activities: Leaf study and printing, bee thumbprints and pollinators, make your own wetland collage, and – believe it or not – painting with mealworms! Thank you Mandy for a fun and educational day at Larabee Library.

We won’t have a Summer Reading Program this week because there is Vacation Bible School. Ocean Adventure continues July 14 and 15 at the same time, same place.

This week we will be packing up our rotating books to be exchanged for a whole new selection! After Wednesday we will have 350 new books in the library thanks to the South Central Kansas Library System. Our patrons always look forward to a new selection. We also have many new books of our own being added daily, thanks to Golden Belt Community Foundation and their grant to support new books for our two new library programs, Recently Read and Preschool Story Hour. It is great to have new books for our very youngest and adult patrons. Check out our Facebook Page for “Shelfies” of our new books.

Our Larabee Ocean is still open until Aug. 5 for kids young and young at heart to come enjoy. If you like to relax and color, we have a “Color our World” color table for “Masters of the Colored Pencils” to enjoy.

Fun stories and pictures of Stafford football are being collected for our last First Friday of the year on Aug. 1. Toot your horn with the Stafford Alumni Band. Join us in a fun and FREE FOOD Friday. Contact Linda Hiebert or us here at the library if you have stories, football paraphernalia, pictures or want to join the band, then come enjoy the last First Friday of the season Aug. 1st.

P.S. – 2025 Wheat harvest is over for the Hildebrands except for the Mudholes. Thank Goodness! It’s been a Challenge!
