Sam celebrates reading 200 books.

Our Father’s Day started at the Genesis Sports Complex at Goddard at midnight, 12 a.m! Our grandson’s baseball game didn’t start till 10:30 p.m. because of rain delays. They played and won a fun game and we got home safely at 2. At midnight Jeff commented it was the first Father’s Day he wasn’t cutting wheat. Father’s Day for wheat farmers is never a “kick back and celebrate” kind of day. Combines are ready. Wheat and ground are not. Maybe this week?

PBS came to the library Monday to start off our Summer Reading program for preschoolers. Jessica Bowman has been coming from Hillsboro as a representative of PBS for more years than I have been at the library. She always has a great program to share with preschoolers. This year she read “Curious George Discovers the Rainbow,” A fun rainbow craft engaged the kids into making their own rainbow to take home. Then the morning ended with the video of “Curious George Discovers the Rainbow” and each child was given their own copy of the story.

Do you watch PBS channels or visit their website? It is great programming for all ages. I hope that they can continue to serve Kansas with the support of Kansans.

Our ocean in the basement is almost ready for “Color Our World” Summer Reading. Sandy put finishing touches onto her shark entry into the colorful ocean depths. A sunken ship, Davy Jones’ locker, and giant ocean creatures await for a fun summer for kids.

A fun activity for adults this summer is The South Central Kansas Library Crawl. All three libraries in Stafford County are participating.

Wellington Public Library and many Chamber of Commerce organizations sponsor the crawl. Over 20 libraries in South Central Kansas participate and you can find out more by Googling South Central Kansas Library Crawl. At each library you visit, a QR Code enters you into a drawing for nice gift cards. Many of the libraries have SWAG BAGS. Remember to ask what is unique about each library you visit. Special collections, amazing buildings, great people make for a fun day trip in Kansas.

The official crawl ends July 31st but libraries are here year round to make your day special.

Each library has their own “open hours,” so check ahead on their websites to see when would be a good time to visit. Plan lots of time to see and eat what South Central Kansas has to offer.
