The Prairie Godmothers welcomed approximately 50 guests to their Sip ‘n Savor Supply Drive on Thursday at the Crest Theater. Participants were invited to drop off donations of personal hygiene items for women in need or make a cash donation while enjoying appetizers, desserts and wine from local vendors. Items will go to partner agencies of the “women helping women” Prairie Godmother Funds of the Golden Belt Community Foundation.
Prairie Godmothers board member Rachel Mawhirter said participants brought in $565 in cash donations and “a literal SUV full of donated items for local supply pantries at our partner charities.”
Three women-owned businesses catered the samples: Kat King made appetizers from Flavored Celebrations, Allie Cartwright made mini cheesecakes from Freaking Delicious Cheesecake Co., and Rosewood Wine Cellar served samples of their locally made wines.
The next Prairie Godmothers event will be Thursday, Nov. 20 and more details will be announced on social media later this summer.
The Prairie Godmothers endowed funds at the community foundation total approximately $394,000, which means that in 2025 they have $16,000 available for grants to women in need, Mawhiter said. “We have already awarded several of those grants this year, and anybody interested in applying for an emergency grant for a one-time need can work with one of our partner agencies to apply. They can get more information about that on the Prairie Godmother’s page of the community foundation website: www.goldenbeltcf.org.”
