Replacing vehicles in the Barton County Sheriff’s Office fleet is on the agenda for Tuesday’s Barton County Commission meeting.
Sheriff Brian Bellendir will present information on four used vehicles available through the Kansas Highway Patrol that meet current operational needs. According to the agenda, three 2023 and one 2022 Dodge Durango Pursuit AWDs are available for $152,650.
The BCSO regularly replaces vehicles following accidents or because they have high mileage and/or mechanical issues.
The commission meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Feb. 17 in Suite 106 of the Barton County Courthouse. It will also be livestreamed at https://bit.ly/4j7JzX.
Other items on the agenda include the annual inventory of county property, presented by County Clerk Bev Schmeidler; and approving the hosting fee for the county’s website along with the release of certain liens.
County Administrator Matt Patzer will provide details on the website and the liens.
Forgiving liens
In the mid-1990s, the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing awarded Community Development Block Grant 94-HR-196, a housing rehabilitation grant, to Barton County. With funding allocated to low-to-moderate-income persons, work included rehabilitation of 24 homes and the demolition of another four. As a condition of financing, Barton County filed a passive lien on subject properties. The $300,000 grant, which included a match of $11,500 from the county, was closed out in December 1998. It is believed that all the conditions of the grant were completed, but the liens were inadvertently not released. As such, it is suggested that the commission release any remaining liens filed as a result of this grant.
