The Suicide Prevention Task Force of the Central Kansas Partnership is offering two awareness and prevention events in September. The annual Glow Run/Walk 4 Life is planned for Saturday, Sept. 17, at Veterans Memorial Park.
In addition to the Glow Run, there is a Pedal for Prevention event on Sept. 24, starting at Brit Spaugh Park and ending at Veterans Memorial Park.
Registration is being taken now for Glow 4 Life. There will be a choice to either participate in the one-mile Glow Walk or a 5K Glow Run. Those interested in saving a little money should register soon, with the fee only $25 if paper registration is completed and fee paid by Aug. 31. Early registrants will also get a T-shirt, glow accessories and snacks.
The Family and Friends Remembrance ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Organizers ask everyone to check in by 6:30 p.m. at the large shelter west of Veterans Lake. The ceremony will last about 15 minutes.
The run starts at 7:30 p.m.
The late registration fee bumps up to $30, and one is not guaranteed to receive a T-shirt/glow accessories.
The easiest way to get the registration form is online at ckpartnership.org. Click on the appropriate menu item and download the form, print it out, fill it out, and send in a check for $25.
Holly Bowyer, The Center for Counseling and Consultation’s event coordinator, asks that participants mail registration forms and checks to Golden Belt Glow for Life, The Center for Counseling, 5815 Broadway, Great Bend, KS 67530.
This year’s Glow Run theme is Suicide Prevention – You Matter!
“The Center for Counseling offers families many vital services, including individual, family, couples, and group therapy counseling,” Bowyer said. Also, medication services and many other kinds of support are available at the Center.
Those experiencing a mental health crisis can call the Center’s 24-hour crisis line at 800-875-2544. For access to or questions about mental health services call 620-792-2544 during regular business hours.
“The Center for Counseling is excited about this year’s event,” Bowyer said, adding she finds it encouraging that attendance and interest have increased every year. That helps to bring about greater awareness of the need to help and encourage people experiencing mental health crises. Bowyer encourages everyone interested to call for more information at the Center’s regular phone line, 620-792-2544.
“The families that usually participate in the Glow 4 Life event call me well beforehand and want to know that the event is definitely planned for the designated time and date because this is so important to them,” Bowyer said.
