Sunflower Senior Center located at 215 E 3rd Ave., St. John, has a 40-year history of serving the senior citizens of St. John. A recent additional service is the use of a smart TV and computer during open hours.

Monday through Friday supportive services and community involvement involve Meals on Wheels and Friendship Meals. As seniors discover cooking for one or even two isn’t as easy or fun to do, consider enrolling in Meals on Wheels delivered to your door if homebound or Friendship Meals to enjoy at the senior center. Recreation is available at Witts Center open for walking; another exercise opportunity is “Keep It Moving” video offered on Monday and Thursday mornings and use of the treadmill located in center.

Foot Care and Toenail Trimming provided by appointment on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month is available. The dates are July 2nd and 16th. Walk-ins are welcome to the Blood Pressure Clinic, any age, between 9-10:30 a.m. the 2nd Monday, July 14th.

Seniors of St. John are invited to join us at 6 p.m. July 7th, for our monthly “pot luck” supper. Pizza from Tiger Town Pizza will be provided. If able, bring a salad or a desert to add to the meal.

Volunteers are the most important part of a small town senior center. We are very appreciative of the many volunteers who give of their time to deliver meals, provide rides to and from appointments, rides to the center, trim toe nails and take blood pressure. More volunteers are always needed. Seniors who find extra time a day are invited to try out the volunteer jobs available at Sunflower Senior Center.

Sunflower Senior Center Hours of service are Monday – Thursday, 9:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m. or Friday 9:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Telephone number is 620-549-3403.
