Those who want to share the Christmas spirit with special-needs adults and children have three options this year in Great Bend.

Angel Giving Trees are displayed in three locations where donors can select gift tags and then contribute items to individuals served by Sunflower Diversified Services.

Trees for adult Sunflower clients are located at The UPS Store/Westside Market, 5523 10th, and the waiting room near the Emergency Department at The University of Kansas Health System, 514 Cleveland.

The third tree is designated for children served by programs at Sunflower Early Education Center, 1312 Patton. It is displayed at Great Bend Coffee, 2015 Lakin.

The gift tags specify the age and gender of the person to receive the presents.

“These tags also include information from the wish lists of the people we serve,” said Cody Harris, director of planned giving and community support. “Sunflower supporters have always shown their generosity and we trust that they will come through for the people we serve once again.

“This community project offers a perfect opportunity to share the true spirit of the season with children and adults with developmental disabilities and delays. Donors can be assured that the recipients of these gifts appreciate the support of their neighbors in central Kansas.”

Harris noted that everyone at Sunflower appreciates Great Bend Coffee and the hospital for participating in the Angel Giving Tree project. Sunflower operates The UPS Store/Westside Market.

“It is so gratifying to see this level of community support,” Harris said. “The beneficiaries are children and adults who need a helping hand now and then.”

Gifts for the Early Education Center should be returned to Great Bend Coffee by Friday, Dec. 8. Those from the other two trees should be returned to The UPS Store/Westside Market by Friday, Dec. 15.

Sunflower serves infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. The non-profit agency is in its 58th year.
