Independence Day is a federal holiday, so the banks and post office won’t be open. Here’s a list of things that will be open on Friday, and a few closures.
Area swimming pools will be open on Friday, although most will close earlier than ususal.
The Wetlands at Great Bend Waterpark will be open from 1-4 p.m.
The Stafford City Pool will be open from 1-5 p.m.
The Claflin City Pool will be open from 1-4 p.m. and there will be games at 2 and 3 p.m.
The Larned Municipal City Pool will be open from 12:30-4 p.m.
Ellinwood City Pool will be open from 1-5 p.m. on Friday and 1-6 p.m. on Saturday.
Hoisington’s Municipal Pool will be open from 1-5 p.m. on Friday and 1-6 p.m. on Saturday.
The Splash Pad at Veterans Memorial Park in Great Bend is normally open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, but on Friday it will shut down at 6 p.m. The Splash Pad next to the Barton County Courthouse is temporarily out of service, awaiting the delivery of parts that are on order.
Other attractions/services
The Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo, 2123 Main, will be open during its regular hours, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Hoisington Trolley public transportation will not run on Friday. Normal hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. resume on Saturday.
The Great Bend Senior Center and public transportation will be closed on Friday.
Barton County Historical Society Village and Museum, 85 South U.S. 281, will be closed Friday but will be open from 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Shafer Art Gallery at Barton Community College, 245 NE 30 Road, will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 3-5, but will reopen with regular summer hours on Monday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The Great Bend Public Library will be closed on Friday. Saturday’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Barton County Health Department, the Sheriff’s Office Records Division and the Solid Waste Landfill will be closed Friday, July 4. The Landfill will be open regular hours on Saturday, July 5.
