Mr. Friday C. Otuya, a community engagement specialist with Nex-Tech.com, spoke during the public comment portion of the Jan. 19 Great Bend City Council meeting.

“We’ve been building and constructing fiber here for a while, and to a large extent, we’re done,” he said, adding there are still a few places in the southeast part of town to do. He held up a sign to showcase what has been done in the last two years, “or there about.”

“It showcases the fact that Great Bend is a Smart Rural Community. It means that we have fiber broadband for streaming, or doing all the cool things that you can do. ... In Great Bend you have world-class internet.”

He said he plans to return in mid-February to share more information.
