Cardinal pole vaulters place first

GYPSUM —Hoisington Cardinal pole vaulter Shellamae Farmer cleared 12-6 to break her school record at Friday's Southeast of Salina Track Invitational. Farmer is tied with Smoky Valley's Breanna Peters for the No. 1 girls pole vault in Kansas.

"Hoisington made its presence known with outstanding performances," said Hoisington coach Dan Schmidt. "The girls and boys achieved new season and personal bests. We were proud on our competitiveness. They continue to show strong improvements. The quality of the teams was outstanding. 

Freshman Marley Bittel won the 100 meters (12.29) and placed second in the 200 (26.84). Sofia Simic (5-3) placed second in the high jump, one inch off the school record.

"Both have solid chances to be on the state track podium," Schmidt said 

The Cardinal girls finished runner-up in the 400 relay (51.09), 1,600 relay (4:26.9) and 3,200 relay (10:59.52).

Defending 3A state champion Josiah Ball won the pole vault (14-9)

Caiden Hoffman placed runner-up in the shot put (55-01/2)​ with one of the top throws in 3A. Runner-up finishes were earned by Ball, 110 hurdles (15.25); 300 hurdles (41.71); Kamden Tarlton, 1,600 (4:50.04) and 3,200 (10:20.71).

The Cardinals placed second in the 400 relay (44.32) and 3,200 relay (10:08.51)

The Cardinals compete at the Central Kansas League meet May 9 at Lindsborg.
