NICKERSON — No. 7 ranked 3A Hoisington (26-4) swept Hesston, 25-19, 25-18 and Nickerson, 25-11, 25-11 in a pair of Central Kansas League volleyball matches Tuesday. Hesston defeated Nickerson, 25-10, 26-24 in the third match.
Everything you've heard about Hoisington's 6-foot-1 all-stater Sofia Simic is true. Simic's power dominated at the net against Nickerson and she delivered several perfect jump serves for aces.
In the first set, Simic provided 15 point-ending plays, including a 3-point run of ace serves in a 25-11 opening set victory. Teammates Kelsie Maier, Kinley Wilkens, Ellie Crawfod and Addi Hanzlick chipped in with timely winning plays.
The second set was an instant replay with Simic providing 10 point-ending winners. Once again, Wilkens provided quality play with a trio of consecutive winners. Maier and Hanzlick added winners.
HAYSVILLE — No. 9 ranked 5A Great Bend (20-2) kept rolling with wins over Goddard Eisenhower, 25-22, 25-20 and Campus in a tight 3-set match, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16. Goddard Eisenhower played Campus in the third match of the night.
