Eagles sweep doubleheader

ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood's baseball team will ride into postseason with momentum after sweeping Sylvan-Lucas 6-5 and 15-5 in Monday's non-league twin bill.

The Eagles (12-12) travel to Kismet to play Southwestern Heights (12-11) Wednesday in the 3A Russell baseball regional.

EAGLES 6, SYLVAN-LUCAS 5 (G1) — Eagles' lefthander Cohen Gunn (5-2, 0.90 ERA) struck out six Mustangs and delivered the game-winning single to score Brody Brack. Gunn has 78 strikeouts in 382/3 innings.

Brack scored on Jaxon Burbank's single in a 4-run second. Noah Herrman scored on Drake Hosman's double. Burbank scored on Gunn's groundout. Hosman scored on Trace Tudor's single for a 4-3 lead.

Brack scored on a wild pitch for a 5-5 tie.

EAGLES 15, SYLVAN-LUCAS 5 (G2) — Ellinwood's Tudor and Cade Coleman each drove home three runs and Cohen Gunn added a pair of runs batted home.

The Eagles earned the run-rule victory with a 5-run fifth inning. Layton Wirtz scored the game-winner on a wild pitch.

EAGLES 6, MINNEAPOLIS 2 (G1) — Ellinwood pitcher Hosman (4-2, 5.79 ERA) permitted one earned run and struck out five Lions May 8.

Tudor delivered a 2-run double and drove home three runs. Banks Jacobs and Bryce Williams drove home runs.

EAGLES, 11, MINNEAPOLIS 10 (G2) — Ellinwood's Shae Hoskins singled home Gunn with the game-winning run after the Eagles rallied from an 8-0 deficit.

Hoskins drove home two runs. Hosman, Tudor, Jacobs, Coleman, Wirtz and Brack each drove home one run.

Relief oitcher Jacobs (1-1) yielded one earned run in six brilliant innings with four strikeouts.
