Ellinwood spikers place first
ABILENE — The Ellinwood summer volleyball team won the Abilene Spiketacular tournament with a 29-1 set record to edge Riley County (26-4) and Clay Center (26-4) for first place.
"We played really good teams and reached new levels in our play," said Ellinwood volleyball coach Greg Maxwell. "What an incredible opportunity for all of our athletes to challenge themselves against outstanding competition. For the first time, we brought both our varsity and JV teams to compete in the Abilene Varsity Tournament.
The Ellinwood junior varsity team finished with a 13-17 set record, beating teams from Salina Sacred Heart, Salina South, Buhler, Abilene and Chapman.
"The JV battled all day and had their share of set wins over multiple varsity teams," Maxwell said. "They were getting better with each set."
