HILLSBORO — Larned and Hillsboro split a Central Kansas League softball twin bill as both teams won their first league game. Larned won the opener 8-4 and Hillsboro won the second game 16-13.
Larned (3-10, 1-8) remains ahead of Hillsboro (2-12, 1-9 CKL) in the league standings.
LARNED 8, HILLSBORO 4 (G1) — Larned's Eowyn Hedding blasted a 3-run homer for a 4-4 tie to ignite a 7-run fifth inning for the victory.
Brooks Simmons stole home and Kendra Marvin scored on an error for a 6-4 lead. Ember Nelson's single scored Jadyn Crosby and Gillian Smith's single scored Jillian Hagerman for an 8-4 victory.
Hillsboro led 4-0 when Brooke Simmons homered.
Larned's Crosby struck out seven batters to earn the victory.
HILLSBORO 16, LARNED 13 (G2) — Hillsboro outlasted Larned in a wild nightcap with 29 runs and eight extra-base hits.
Larned's Gillian Smith tripled and drove home three runs. Brooke Simmons doubled and drove in two runs. Kendra Marvin drove home two runs.
Hillsboro's Abby Beavers drove home four runs with four hits. Rylee Voran and Autum Woods each drove home three runs. The Trojans scored seven runs in the fourth inning.
Woods yielded 12 earned runs, but was credited with the victory.
