Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! For tweens and teens grades 3-12 who have been enjoying our crochet projects and want to try something new, there is still time to join the Crafty Cross Stitch Club.
No experience is necessary. During the introductory lesson on Sept. 2, we will learn the basics of cross stitch and get started on making Pusheen, the Internet’s adorable chubby tabby who has warmed the hearts of millions with her animated GIFs and comics. This all-in-one kit includes everything you need to create cute embroidered designs of everyone’s favorite lazy, lovable feline. After the first meeting, we invite you to come back at the same time the next couple weeks to finish your projects. Staff will be available to help. Visit our website to reserve your spot today!
It’s another quiet week at the library before things get into full swing with fall, but we do have a lot for Thursday, starting with Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m.
Later this evening, Aug. 20, at 5:30 p.m. we have Teen Manga & Anime Club. I am personally quite excited for this particular meeting, because we will be watching one of my favorite movies, the Studio Ghibli classic “Porco Rosso.” Follow the story of a former World War I flying ace who has somehow turned into a pig during the war. As he prepares to battle the pirate crew’s American ace, Porco Rosso enlists the help of spunky girl mechanic Fio Piccolo to build him the fastest plane on the Adriatic. But to do so, Porco must travel to Italy, where he is wanted for treason after refusing to fly for Italy during the war. Afterwards, we’ll discuss the movie and put our paper folding skills to the test by seeing who can make the best origami plane. Copies of September’s title, “Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun” by AidaIro, will be available for checkout.
Other than Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and another Genealogy Thursday on Aug. 27, that’s all we have this coming week. But despair not! Starting in September, we have tons of events through November, and you can read all about them in our fall newsletter. Pick one up to see everything we have in store for you this fall, from a local author book signing to our Shafer Gallery Monday Crafternoons to Pokémon mania.
