During the month of May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). The theme is “Power by Connection,” which recognizes the profound impact that Older Americans have made in the workforce. Using their talents and abilities that they have gained over the years, older Americans, fill the employment space with experience.
Older Americans stand as the cornerstone of our nation, having laid the foundation for the success of future generations. Across diverse backgrounds and experiences, their perseverance and adaptability serve as a beacon of inspiration, bridging generational divides in our ever-evolving communities. Whether it’s a seasoned architect passing down his brick-and-mortar knowledge of the craft to younger counterparts, or a grandmother teaching her granddaughter how to cook a family traditional recipe, Older Americans have so much wisdom and value to share.
When Older Americans are placed in the workforce it brings stability to any company as they are more reliable than their younger counterparts in having a great work ethic.
Honoring Older Americans Month transcends recognition of past achievement; it embodies a commitment to investing in and embracing the future. By valuing the insights of Older Americans, we pave the way for more inclusive, compassionate, and intergenerational communities. Through nurturing a culture of connection and engagement, we empower Older Americans to thrive and contribute meaningfully to our community.
