HAYSVILLE — When Chase Chapman drilled a clutch grand slam homer off Aiden Tackett, the Great Bend Bat Cats had sliced Haysville's 5-run lead to 9-8.

Great Bend was three outs away from batting with a chance to clinch the Jayhawk Collegiate League baseball title.

But Haysville scored five eighth-inning runs off reliever Quentin Medrano (10.20 ERA), who walked four batters and gave up two hits. Medrano finished the summer yielding 26 earned runs in 23 innings.

The Haysville Aviators ruined Great Bend's goal of a Jayhawk Collegiate baseball title with a 14-8 victory Saturday to compete a 2-game weekend sweep.

The Bat Cats late-season pitching collapsed, yielding 36 runs in their final three losses against Hutchinson and Haysville.

The Bat Cats (24-10, 22-10 Jayhawk) will hold out for an unlikely NBC World Series invitation Sunday. Jayhawk champion Junction City (23-9) and defending NBC champion Hutchinson will earn automatic NBC invitations.

Chapman drilled two homers for a career high six runs batted home. Chapman sparked a 4-run fifth inning with a 2-run blast.

George McCarroll doubled home Dylan Sarna. Andrugh Yee drove home McCarroll with a fly ball for his team leading 42nd RBI in the fifth inning.

Haysville finished with 15 hits, eight walks, two hit batters and 25 baserunners.

Haysville's Logan Hicks ripped a 3-run homer off Hays reliever Carter Graham and drove home six runs. Culley Ohm drove home three runs with three hits. Colton Ruedy drove in three runs with two hits.
