Crash on K-156 in Ellsworth County results in one death, multiple injuries
One motorist died and another had suspected serious injuries after two vehicles collided at 12:21 p.m. Thursday in Ellsworth County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred on K-156, .25 miles east of the Barton/Ellsworth County line.
A 2007 Chevy Impala driven by Debra Jean Stovall, 72, from Beverly was westbound and went left of center. It struck an eastbound 2019 Ram 1500 driven by Colton Thayne Madden, 21, from St. George. The Impala came to rest in the westbound ditch and the truck overturned, came to rest on the eastbound shoulder and became engulfed in flame.
Stovall was pronounced dead at the scene, while Madden was taken to Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington. His injuries appeared to be serious. There were three passengers in his vehicle. Easton David Kaylor, 19, Wichita, was taken to Clara Barton Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. Daniel Leonard Hammeke, 21, Great Bend, and Caleb Andrew Harder, 19, Leawood, were both taken to the Ellsworth County Medical Center with possible injuries as they reported being in pain.
KHP reports all of the people involved were wearing seat belts.
