Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s hammer time at Adult Craft Night this Thursday, May 14, at 6 p.m! As usual, we will still provide the craft supplies, but this month’s activity comes with a twist: We are asking participants to bring their own hammers. That’s right, folks, this is a B.Y.O.H. event! These tools will be used to pound flowers to transfer and preserve their beautiful colors and designs on fabric.

Monday, it’s time for our next Senior Center Computer Class. This time, we will be focusing on Google Drive basics. Google Drive can be a great free resource for storing documents, photos, and more. Learn how to use it officially at our Senior Center Class on the 18th at 10 a.m. Not enjoying your golden years yet? No worries, you too can learn the ins and outs of Google Drive at the library on Wednesday, the 20th at noon during our Brown Bag Computer Class for all ages.

Tuesday will be Tech Tuesday as always at 11 a.m. In the evening, at 7 p.m., we have this month’s Open Book Club meeting. This time we are reading “Light from Uncommon Stars” by Ryka Aoki. “Shizuka Satomi made a deal with the devil: to escape damnation, she must entice seven other violin prodigies to trade their souls for success. She has already delivered six. When Katrina Nguyen, a young transgender runaway, catches Shizuka’s ear with her wild talent, Shizuka can almost feel the curse lifting. She’s found her final candidate. But in a donut shop off a bustling highway in the San Gabriel Valley, Shizuka meets Lan Tran, retired starship captain, interstellar refugee, and mother of four. Shizuka doesn’t have time for crushes or coffee dates, what with her very soul on the line, but Lan’s kind smile and eyes like stars might just redefine a soul’s worth. And maybe something as small as a warm donut is powerful enough to break a curse as vast as the California coastline. As the lives of these three women become entangled by chance and fate, a story of magic, identity, curses, and hope begins, and a family worth crossing the universe for is found.” (Goodreads) Interested in joining us for the discussion? Last but not least, on Thursday the 21st, after our regularly scheduled Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., we have Teen Manga and Anime Club at 5:30 p.m. Teens, new and seasoned anime fans, are invited to join our club! This time, we are watching the Studio Ghibli movie, “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.”
