RUSSELL — Russell pitcher Max Evans threw a 1-hit shutout to spark the Broncos past Ellinwood 3-0 in Tuesday's 2A Russell baseball regional.

Evans (4-0, 1.54 ERA) yielded a single to Banks Jacobs, who was tagged out on Shea' Hoskins pop out on an attempted bunt. Evans threw 78 pitches with no walks.

Ellinwood lefthander Cohen Gunn (6-3, 1.10 ERA) struck out eight batters and yielded three earned runs.

Wes Dreiling doubled home Evans after back-to-back fourth-inning doubles. Dreiling scored on a Pierce Schoenberger's fly ball.

Evans singled home Jarod Ford in the fifth for Russell (21-5), which played Holcomb for a 3A state baseball berth.
